SciELO - Scientific Electronic Library Online

SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online) is a bibliographic database and a model for cooperative electronic publishing in developing countries originally from Brazil, supported by the Foundation for Research Support of the State of São Paulo (Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo, FAPESP) and the National Council of Scientific and Technological Development (Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico, CNPq), in partnership with the Latin American and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences Information. The database contains 985 scientific journals from different countries in free and universal access, full-text format. The SciELO Project's stated aims are to "envisage the development of a common methodology for the preparation, storage, dissemination and evaluation of scientific literature in electronic format." All journals are published by a special software suite which implements a scientific electronic virtual library accessed via several mechanisms, including a table of titles in alphabetic and subject list, subject and author indexes and a search engine.

INECOL - El Jardín

Colección Etnobotánica Los humanos estamos relacionados con las plantas en un sinnúmero de formas. Esto es lo que estudia la etnobotánica. Aquí los visitantes encontrarán algunas de las plantas más utilizadas por los habitantes de la región de Xalapa, sus aplicaciones y usos tradicionales, su valor cultural o científico. Los ejemplares están debidamente etiquetados y están dispuestos de tal modo que se pueda distinguir con facilidad sus características durante el recorrido. Los primeros jardines botánicos del mundo ya exhibían colecciones etnobotánicas, sobre todo de plantas medicinales. Hoy en día todos los jardines botánicos del mundo promueven la conservación de la diversidad de plantas y de los conocimientos así como los usos que las personas tradicionalmente hacen de ellas. En Veracruz existen grupos étnicos como los totonacas y los nahuas que conocen y utilizan plantas desde hace muchos siglos. Estos conocimientos antiquísimos siguen siendo de uso regular tanto en el campo como en las ciudades y muchas personas las utilizan para comer y condimentar, como materia prima en artesanía, elaboración de esencias aromáticas, fabricación de colorantes, adornos, madera para mobiliario, como leña, como alimentación de animales domésticos, en rituales y ceremonias sin olvidar la cura de algunas enfermedades.

INECOL - El Instituto de Ecología

El INECOL, es una sólida institución mexicana, que ha ganado un prestigio nacional e internacional, que en 1974 se fundó, gracias a la coyuntura política existente en ese momento, donde el director del Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT), Dr. Gerardo Bueno Zirión apoyó la iniciativa de la creación de centros de investigación, que se venía gestando desde sus inicios en los años ‘70. Entonces el Dr. Gonzalo Halffter, que era Director de Graduados e Investigación Científica del Instituto Politécnico Nacional, decide junto con un pequeño grupo de investigadores provenientes de la Escuela Nacional de Ciencias Biológicas del IPN, lanzarse a un proyecto de formar una institución dedicada a la ecología, dada la necesidad de fortalecer e impulsar la investigación en este campo en nuestro país. En aquel entonces tenía un alto grado de incertidumbre de llegar a ser exitoso, pero que gracias a la iniciativa y visión del Dr. Gonzalo Halffter, Director Fundador, y a la vez, Director del Museo de Historia Natural de la Ciudad de México en Chapultepec, ha llegado a ser lo que hoy en día conocemos.

Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL

The Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research is concerned with the use, development and protection of natural and urban spaces. The focus of our research is on solving problems to do with the responsible use of landscapes and forests and a prudent approach to natural hazards, especially those common in mountainous countries. WSL occupies a leading position internationally in these research areas. We also provide groundwork for sustainable environmental policies in Switzerland.

Hrvatsko Botaničko Društvo

Hrvatsko botaničko društvo okuplja članstvo koje se profesionalno ili amaterski bavi nekim od polja botaničkih znanosti. Djelovanje društva usmjereno je k promicanju i razvitku botaničkih znanosti na popularnoj, stručnoj i znanstvenoj razini. Društvo se zalaže za očuvanje i zaštitu flore, vegetacije i staništa te ukupne biološke raznolikosti Hrvatske. Hrvatsko botaničko društvo sudjeluje u povezivanju i poticanju stručne i znanstvene suradnje sa studentskim, građanskim i drugim organizacijama na Sveučilištu, Republici Hrvatskoj i svijetu. Svojim ukupnim djelovanjem hrvatsko botaničko društvo želi doprinijeti ostvarivanju modernog, slobodnog, demokratskog, pluralnog, tolerantnog i nenasilnog društva uz temeljna načela poštivanja različitosti stavova, misli i ideja, slobode izbora i odgovornosti pojedinca i Društva.

Univerzitet Crne Gore

Univerzitet Crne Gore je osnovan 29. aprila 1974. godine. Te godine, tri fakulteta: Ekonomski, Tehnički i Pravni iz Titograda, dvije više škole: Pedagoška akademija iz Nikšića i Viša pomorska škola iz Kotora i tri samostalna naučna instituta: Istorijski, Poljoprivredni i Institut za biološka i medicinska istraživanja iz Titograda, udružili su se u Univerzitet u Titogradu. Godinu dana nakon osnivanja promijenio je ime u Univerzitet “Veljko Vlahović”, a 1992. godine dobija ime Univerzitet Crne Gore. U trideset godina svog postojanja Univerzitet se razvijao u duhu vremena i narastajućih potreba Crne Gore.

University of Montenegro

The University of Montenegro was founded on 29 April 1974. when three faculties (Faculty of Economics, of Engineering and the Faculty of Law from Titograd), two colleges (Teaching College and Maritime Studies College) and three independent scientific institutes (for History, for Agriculture and for Biological and Medical Research), signed an Agreement on Association into the University in Titograd. A year after it was founded, it changed its name into the University ”Veljko Vlahović”, and since 1992 it has its present name. The seat of the University of Montenegro is in Podgorica (www.podgorica.me), the capital of Montenegro, with a population of around 200.000. The University of Montenegro is situated in ten Montenegrin towns: Podgorica, Nikšic, Cetinje, Kotor, Herceg Novi, Bar, Bijelo Polje, Budva, Pljevlja and Berane. The University of Montenegro has developed in accordance with the spirit of time and the growing needs of Montenegro.

The Flora of North America project has grown out of a long history of interest in the flora area and has built on the experiences of previous efforts to produce a comprehensive flora. It has been designed to draw on the expertise of the entire systematic botany community and to make the best possible use of the literature and herbarium specimens that are essential resources for the project. Despite current interest in and urgency of botanical studies of many other kinds, there continues to be a need for information about the plants of North America on a continental scale.

As the largest university library system in the Washington D.C.-Baltimore area, the University Libraries serve 37,000 students and faculty of the flagship College Park campus. National Botanical Research Institute (CSIR-NBRI)

CSIR- National Botanical Research Institute (CSIR-NBRI) is a multi-disciplinary plant research centre of international repute, undertaking basic and applied R&D programmes in several strategically important areas of plant sciences, including plant systematics and biodiversity, conservation biology, environmental biology, horticulture and floriculture, plant-microbial interactions, plant biotechnology and genetic engineering, bioinformatics, plant diversity databases, and bio-prospection of plant and microbial resources for health, environment and industry-related products and technologies. CSIR-NBRI has a wholesome expertise in plant biodiversity, plant-microbe interactions, biotechnology, and bioinformatics. The institute is known for its outstanding contributions to enriching the knowledge base on India’s plant diversity, particularly in developing globally competent biotech and microbial technologies, herbal products and plant databases.

University of Arizona Herbarium

The University of Arizona Herbarium is as old as the University of Arizona itself. When U of A first opened its doors in students in October of 1891, the herbarium was located in Old Main and consisted of 700 native plant specimens from southern and central Arizona. Since that time, the collections have grown to over 420,000 plant specimens and over 40,000 mycological specimens. Not only is ARIZ the largest herbarium in AZ, but it contains one of the largest collections of plants from the biologically diverse Sonoran Desert region (Arizona, Sonora, and adjacent desert areas of California and Baja California). ARIZ also contains significant collections of plants from other regions of Mexico, and is home to numerous important historical collections, many dating to the 1800s.

University of Arizona Herbarium

We are located in historic Herring Hall on the campus of the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona, USA. With over 400,000 specimens, ARIZ is the world's largest collection of plants from Arizona and Sonora, Mexico. These collections support a rich diversity of research projects by herbarium staff and university researchers. We also serve the general public, private organizations, and government agencies of all levels as a provider of information on the plants of Arizona and the Sonoran Desert region. National Library of France

The BnF’s collections are unique in the world: 14 million books and printed documents, manuscripts, prints, photographs, maps and plans, scores, coins, medals, sound documents, video and multimedia documents, scenery elements... All disciplines, whether intellectual, artistic or scientific, are represented in a comprehensive way. About 150 000 documents are added to the collections each year thanks to legal deposit, acquisitions and donations. Today, the BnF’s digital library, Gallica, provides access to over one million and a half documents.
