The Mexican Cactus Society was founded on 1951 by a small group of enthusiasts and specialists bought together by Dra. Helia Bravo Hollis, Hernando Sánchez Mejorada, Eizi Matuda, Carlos Chávez, Juan Balme and Dudley B. Gold, that formed the executive committee of new society and Dr Jorge Meyrán was included as a future editor of the magazine when the Society well was established.
The first number of the magazine Cactáceas y Suculentas Mexicanasappeared in 1955 July. Since then until 1998 the editing of the magazine was done Dr Jorge Meyrán and from January as of 1999 is in charge of two editors in chief: Dr. Jordan Golubov and Dr. Maria C. Mandujano. The journal has been published regularly 4 times a year since from 1955, and we strive to have original manuscripts. The presidency was occupied the first twenty years by the Dra. Helia Bravo, followed by Dr. Hernando Sánchez Mejorada, Dr. Ignacio Piña, Dr. Salvador Arias, MSc. Jerónimo Reyes Santiago and Biol. Araceli Gutierrez de la Rosa.
At the present time the Society monthly holds its meetings in Botanical Garden auditorium of the Autonomous National University of Mexico (UNAM) and has a pretty large number of national and international members. Our objective is to obtain more knowledge, members and collaborators and promote the study and conservation of succulent plants.
